Hey Guys,
I personally thought this poem/story was extremely depressing and very sad. Of course this shows how the Mexican-Americans were treated inhumanely, at one point of this country's history, by the Anglo-Saxsons; but their treatment towards them could be looked at as being worse than the treatment of a dog. I had to read this story like two times, because it was really powerful. Even after this course, I'm definitely going to remember this for many years.

I agree and I feel that the intent of this poem is to not only open eyes to the parts of history that have remained "invisible" in mainstream education of history, but also can serve as inspiration to work for change. The author of this poem wrote it long after the historical time of the poem and there must have been present day inspiration for her to write this. I think that the power dynamics are still relevant today and I hope the poem inspires change.
